24 November, 2006SOA and Gartner
Some of my colleagues participated in the Gartner Symposium 2006 in Cannes and according to them there was very little focus on SOA. CBDI have comment this here. According to CBDI the major vendors have difficulties in selling SOA infrastructure technology and large projects, because SOA is a long term deal. Moreover are many organizations struggling with governance, organizational changes, needs multidimensional maturity models and roadmaps (guess who have these?) and close integration to the business. This must not be characterized as disillusionment, but as important learning exercises. I am agreeing in this and my organization is also seeing SOA as learning exercises and other organizations with high SOA maturity level and large system portofolio based on SOA, are also still seeing SOA as learning. This incremental SOA-approach combined with enterprise architecture is the most intelligent, though you are tempted by many vendors and consultants to the opposite approach.
Gartner have now much focus on Web 2.0 , but the large vendors are not focusing on this, because it is a more underground and grassroot concept, but most of all, successful web 2.0 for enterprises requires SOA and EA. By the way if u doesn’t want to be oldfashioned, u most starts talking about web 3.0 (though some says it is not a new vision and others say it can not be realized...) |
